Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturer BYD is set to overtake Tesla as the world’s biggest seller of battery electric vehicles in 2025, according to the BBC.

BYD reported that its sales of pure battery-powered cars rose by almost 28% last year to more than 2.25 million vehicles, while analysts cited by the BBC estimate that Tesla’s full-year 2025 deliveries will be around 1.65 million, meaning BYD will outsell its U.S. rival for the first time. The shift highlights increasing global competition in the EV market, particularly from Chinese brands such as BYD, Geely and MG, which have undercut established manufacturers on price. Tesla has attempted to respond by introducing lower-priced versions of its most popular models in major markets like the U.S. to help boost demand. Am Online

The BBC also noted that Tesla’s sales momentum has softened in parts of Europe, where BYD and other competitors are gaining market share, while BYD continues to expand internationally with increased exports and new market entries. Am Online
