The European Commission has published a new set of recommendations designed to make smart charging and demand response easier to implement across Europe. Developed by several expert groups, the proposals aim to improve how electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and electricity networks communicate with each other through a common framework for data exchange.

The recommendations focus on making it easier for EV drivers to benefit from smart charging services while enabling companies to offer these solutions across the European market. A standardized approach to data sharing would reduce complexity, improve interoperability and support wider adoption of intelligent charging technologies.

Smart charging allows electric vehicles to automatically charge when electricity demand is lower or when renewable energy is more readily available.
