Europe's public EV charging market is entering a new phase, according to the latest gridX Charging Report. While the number of public charging points continues to grow, the pace of expansion has slowed as the market shifts its focus toward deploying more powerful and efficient charging infrastructure. In 2025, Europe reached more than 1.22 million public charging points across 32 markets.

The report highlights that operators are increasingly prioritising high-power DC chargers instead of simply adding more charging locations. This approach aims to reduce charging times, improve network utilisation and better support the growing number of modern electric vehicles capable of faster charging.

Although infrastructure growth has moderated compared to previous years, overall charging capacity continues to increase as higher-power chargers become more common. Industry analysts view this as a sign that Europe's EV charging network is maturing and adapting to the changing needs of drivers and fleet operators.

For charging infrastructure providers, the report indicates that future investment will increasingly focus on improving charging performance, grid integration and user experience rather than expanding network size alone.
